With the move into the office at the Graadt van Roggenweg in Utrecht, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) took an important step towards hybrid and activity-based working. The office was designed as a modern work environment in which meeting, collaborating and flexibility are central. For many employees, this meant not only a new work environment, but above all a new way of working.

Nassau supported RVO in the development, implementation and further optimization of this transition. The assignment clearly went further than the design of an office. Central was the question of how the physical work environment, digital facilities and work behavior could jointly contribute to a future-proof organization.

An integrated approach

Together with RVO, Nassau developed the hybrid work concept in which housing, ICT, HR, behavior and organizational development were connected. Employees received not only a new work environment, but also clear principles, practical working agreements and support during the transition to hybrid working. The central question was always: which workplace best suits the activity of the moment?

In addition to developing the concept, Nassau provided communication, user information and the introduction of the new work environment. Through publications, manuals and information sessions, employees were prepared for the new way of working and collaborating.

Measuring, evaluating and improving

After the move-in, Nassau developed an extensive evaluation in which user experiences, work patterns, occupancy data and the functionality of the work environment were examined in an integrated way. Through surveys, interviews and analyses, an objective picture emerged of the extent to which the work environment supported daily activities and where improvements were possible.

The results formed the basis for a number of concrete improvements. Not only the design of the work environment was optimized, but also its use. Advice related to the balance between collaboration and concentration, the capacity of different workspaces, hybrid meetings, user behavior and the further development of activity-based working.

Work environments that keep evolving

The project shows that a successful work environment does not end with the completion of a building. By combining strategic advice with research, monitoring and user insights, a work environment emerges that keeps evolving. In this way, Nassau helps organizations see housing not as an end in itself, but as a means to sustainably improve collaboration, performance and employee satisfaction.
